President, Free State Project
Carla Gericke was born in South Africa, and moved to the US after winning a green card. She practiced law at Fortune 500 companies in California before completing her MFA in NYC. After moving to New Hampshire in 2008 as part of of Free State Project, Carla twice organized the Porcupine Freedom Festival, one of the world’s largest liberty gatherings held annually in June in Lancaster, and she has been president of the FSP since 2011. Carla is frequently quoted in the media, including The New York TimesThe EconomistThe Washington PostThe Washington TimesThe Boston Globe, and local newspapers. In 2014, Carla, acting as plaintiff, won a landmark 1st Circuit Court of Appeals case reaffirming the 1st Amendment right to film police encounters. Carla was named one of NH Magazine’s 2014 Remarkable Women.
